OPPORTUNITY to take part in training and competition with

the best COACHING we can provide

to meet the AMBITION of those taking part

OPPORTUNITY means that at the younger age where the player is encountering the game for the first time we give all players an equal role in the group, receiving the same coaching programme and playing an equal part in competitions providing that the coach and team manager is happy with the safety of the child in the competition.

COACHING means a planned organised course where each week there are skills introduced and practised to provide a good grounding at all elements of the game. The skill level will be structured to the age group. The session will also involve games and activities to use and enhance the skills learned in that and the preceeding weeks.

AMBITION is primarily down to the junior player. The club will, during the course of the season, assess and report on the skills tested and the level attained by each player, highlighting what the next step is and the work that will have to be done. Every element of the report will be constructive. The ambition to meet that goal lies with the player and with encouragement from the coaching team we will give the player every opportunity to reach their personal goal.

Our revamped coaching programme began in 2002 with the introduction of pre-season winter nets for all those who wanted to take part and this was carried on for pre-season 2003 with the introduction of skills training prior to net sessions. So far in 2003 the junior teams have had a great season with all age groups winning their matches on a regular basis from Under 9 all the way through to the Under 17's.

Practice sessions are open to any child in Year 3 or above, girls and boys.

New players are always welcome, just come along to any session.

It costs just £10 for the season, £5 for the second or more child in the same family, there is no weekly fee on top.

Sessions run from the first Mondayand Thursday in April through to the end of August.

New Registrations can be taken for all age groups from age 8 to age 18 from 6.30pm on any Monday or Thursday.

We have many qualified coaches and trained assistants. We sponsor adults who wish to receive training and run our own training course for assistants.

We have our own Child Protection Policy

We have a Code of Conduct forPlayers, Parents and Coaches

The club has spent a lot of money on the new practice facility and we believe that good management of this and using it to its fullest potential will result in us helping each child to reach their goals in the game. We now have more equipment to go along with the facility a bowling machine has been purchased and will be introduced soon, more safety netting to separate areas of the ground at practice sessions is about to be bought and the next stage of providing quality to help the children in their ambitions is video recording of activities. On the list of smaller items we have more equipment for use in practice sessions, more balls for all age groups and more bats for the younger players. IF YOU KNOW OF A BUSINESS OR INDIVIDUAL THAT MAY HELP US WITH THESE TARGETS FOR EQUIPMENT IN THE SUM OF £50 TO £250, please e-mail slowndes@dwcc.freeserve.co.uk or H4MPY@aol.com

If you want me to add something to this page - please e-mail me - it is for you!

NEW PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME

School Years 3 & 4 practice on Mondays at 6.30pm, 5 & 6 on Thursdays at 6.30pm. All age groups above this practice on Mondays. We cannot take children below Year 3 at this time. Parents are welcome to come along, watch, sample the refreshments or join in to help with the administration or if you would like to help with the sessions and games, we can give the Introductory Training, no experience necessary!

Clothing: Training shoes or cricket boots, tracksuit bottoms and a white shirt, sweatshirt or jumper are required, please note that at the start of the season, it can be cold in the early evening. If you are buying a cricket jumper then the standard green / gold sweaters available at all good sports shops (including Peak Sports of Stockport) are the club colours. Children do not need any equipment, the club will provide all other items needed.

BUYING CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT
If you want to buy clothing and equipment then the order you should make purchases is as follows:
For age 8 to 11:

We often have a supply of polo shirts carrying the club badge from £4 upwards depending on size, please ask at any session.

For age 11 up:

We often have a supply of protectors, polo shirts carrying the club badge from £4 upwards depending on size and also larger sweaters with the embroidered red rose badge, please ask at any session.

We recommend that when purchasing equipment you use a specialist cricket supplier - not a major high street retailer as they have little expertise in the game - our nearest quality shops are in Stockport - Peak Sports or Harrisons Sports of 51 Greek St, Stockport (off the Edgeley roundabout) where you will get good and honest advice, the best equipment and, by showing your members card, you will get a discount!
